Welcome to the website for the review of the General Insurance Code of Practice.
The General Insurance Code of Practice (the Code) is the industry's commitment to be open, fair and honest in the way it deals with its customers. The Code commits insurers to high standards, which they uphold in the services they provide to their customers. These standards apply when selling insurance, dealing with insurance claims, responding to catastrophes and disasters, and handling complaints.
The Review of the Code aims to address the views of a wide range of stakeholders including consumers, governments, and regulators, on the operation of the Australian general insurance industry.
An Independent Reviewer, Mr Ian Enright, has been appointed by the Insurance Council Board to carry out a Review of the Code. The Review commenced in July 2012 and a report containing the findings and recommendations is expected to be delivered by mid-2013.
This website provides information about the Code, the Review, and how groups and individuals can make a contribution to the Review.
